Air Fryer Cheeseburgers
Air Fryer Cheeseburgers are the ones I turn to every time a burger craving hits and firing up the grill isn’t happening. Juicy, browned patties, melted cheddar draped right over the top, crisp romaine, fresh tomato, red onion, and a savory ketchup-Worcestershire sauce all stacked on a golden toasted bun. Classic, bold, and completely irresistible.

I make these for weeknight dinners, weekend lunches, and anytime I want something that feels like a proper treat without a lot of cleanup. The whole thing comes together so fast, the family never misses the drive-through. Best enjoyed fresh and hot right out of the air fryer, while that cheddar is still melty. Leftover patties keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Making a great burger in the air fryer is easier than you think, and I’ll walk you through every step so yours turns out perfectly juicy and loaded with flavor.
Shape and Season the Patties
Divide the ground beef into two equal portions, then roll each into a ball. I always use my kitchen scale to divide the beef evenly so both patties cook at the same rate.
Flatten each into a patty slightly larger than your burger bun to allow for shrinkage during cooking. Sprinkle both sides generously with salt and pepper. Using at least 80/20 ground beef is key here since the fat content keeps your patties juicy and flavorful.

Toast the Buns
Place the cut sides of the buns face up in the air fryer basket and toast for 3 to 5 minutes at 400°F (200°C), or until golden brown. A good basket-style air fryer gives you enough room to toast both buns at once without crowding.
Set them aside. Toasting the buns first means they won’t get soggy once you pile on the toppings and sauce.

Cook the Patties and Melt the Cheese
Place the burger patties in the air fryer and cook for 3 minutes. Flip, add a slice of cheddar to each patty, and cook for another 2 minutes. Let the patties rest for 3 minutes before assembling.

That resting time is non-negotiable since it lets the juices redistribute so you don’t lose them the moment you take a bite. I use this instant-read meat thermometer to make sure the internal temp reaches 160°F before pulling them out.
Make the Sauce and Assemble
Mix the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, then spread them on the bottom bun. Layer with romaine lettuce, pickles, tomato slices, and onion rings.
Place the burger patty with melted cheese on top, followed by the top bun. Add more sauce if desired.

Serve and Enjoy
Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as French fries or a crisp salad. Enjoy!
Air Fryer Cheeseburgers are best enjoyed fresh, but if you need to transport them, wrap each assembled burger tightly in butcher paper or foil to hold everything together and keep them warm.
Pack the sauce and toppings separately in small containers so the buns don’t get soggy on the way. This insulated food carrier keeps the patties at a safe temperature for up to an hour during transport.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste

- ¼ cup pickles sliced
- 1 large tomatoes sliced
- 1 red onion finely sliced into rings

Notes
- Make the patties wider than the bun: The patties shrink as they cook, so flatten them slightly larger than your bun before air frying to ensure a good fit after cooking.
- Season both sides well: Don’t be shy with the salt and pepper since the seasoning is the only thing flavoring the outside of the patty.
- Don’t skip toasting the buns: Toasting the buns at 400°F for 3 to 5 minutes keeps them from going soggy under the sauce and toppings.
- Rest the patties before assembling: Let the cooked patties rest for 3 minutes after coming out of the air fryer so the juices stay inside the meat when you bite in.
- Add cheese right after flipping: Place the cheddar slice on the patty immediately after flipping so it has the full 2 minutes to melt into a smooth, gooey layer.
- Flash-freeze patties for meal prep: If you want to prep ahead, flash-freeze raw, shaped patties on a baking sheet for 1 hour before transferring to a freezer bag so they don’t stick together and are ready to cook straight from frozen.

How to Store Leftovers
Store cooked patties separately from the buns and toppings in an airtight glass container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, pop the patties back in the air fryer at 350°F for 2 to 3 minutes until warmed through, then add a fresh slice of cheese for the last minute if you want that melty finish again.
For longer storage, freeze the cooked patties in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Thaw them overnight in the fridge before reheating. Keep the buns, toppings, and sauce separate and fresh so every assembled burger tastes just as good as it did on the first day.
What to Serve With Air Fryer Cheeseburgers
Classic sides are classic for a reason, and a basket of crispy fries is always the first thing I reach for alongside these. You could also pair them with onion rings, sweet potato fries, or a simple coleslaw that adds a cool, creamy contrast to the warm, savory patty.
If you want something lighter, a crisp garden salad or a wedge salad with ranch dressing works really well. Corn on the cob, baked beans, or a cup of tomato soup are all solid options if you’re putting together a fuller spread for the table.
