Air Fryer Apple Crisp is my go-to fall dessert when I want something quick, easy, and lighter than traditional baked desserts without sacrificing flavor. Tender cinnamon apples get topped with a buttery brown sugar and oat crumble that turns perfectly golden and crispy in the air fryer, creating that irresistible combination both kids and adults love. I make it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween parties, Sunday family dinners, and last-minute potlucks because it's budget-friendly and tastes completely homemade. It stays fresh at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days, and you can freeze it for up to 3 months.
Place the apples in a large bowl. Mix in the sugar and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 13x9-inch baking dish.
5 apples, ½ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, baking powder, nutmeg, and the remaining ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples.
1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup brown sugar, ½ cup quick-cooking oats, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, ½ cup cold butter
Bake in the air fryer at 160ºC (320°F) for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden.
Serve warm, with vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
Here are my best tips for making a perfect Air Fryer Apple Crisp every time.
Use firm apples: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji apples hold their shape best and won't turn mushy during baking.
Don't skip the greasing: Grease the baking dish well so the apples don't stick and cleanup is easier.
Check your baking dish size: Make sure your 13x9-inch dish fits comfortably in your air fryer basket with some space around the edges for air circulation.
Keep the butter cold: Cold butter creates the crumbly texture in the topping. If it's too soft, the topping will be dense instead of crispy.
Reheat in the air fryer: For the crispiest topping, reheat leftovers in the air fryer instead of the microwave. It brings back that fresh-baked texture.
Flash freeze for easy storage: If freezing, let the apple crisp cool completely, then freeze uncovered for 1 hour before wrapping tightly. This prevents the topping from getting soggy or sticking to the wrap.
