Recipe Notes and Expert Tips

Getting your air fryer lasagna just right might take a little practice, but these tips will help you become a pro in no time:

  • Check as You Cook: Depending on your air fryer model, cooking times can vary. Start checking your lasagna around the 10-minute mark to prevent overcooking.
  • Rest: Let your lasagna sit for a few minutes after cooking. This rest time helps the layers set and makes it easier to cut.
  • Adjust Seasonings: Taste your meat sauce and ricotta mixture before assembling your lasagna. Adjusting the seasoning beforehand ensures a flavorful result.
  • Experiment with Fillings: Beyond traditional beef, try Italian sausage, turkey, or even a veggie mix. Lasagna is incredibly versatile!
  • Cheese: For that perfect melty top, don’t skimp on the cheese. A good mix of mozzarella cheese and Parmesan right on top will give you great color and texture, plus that iconic cheese pull.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble your lasagna in the air fryer-safe dish and refrigerate it for up to a day before cooking. Just remember to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time since you’ll be starting from cold.
  • Air Fryer Size: A medium to large air fryer is best for making lasagna, typically around 6 quarts or larger. This size allows you to fit a small baking dish or pan that can hold multiple layers of noodles and filling.
  • Prevent Cheese Burning: To prevent the cheese from burning, you can cover the lasagna with foil during the initial minutes of cooking, then remove the foil towards the end to allow the cheese to brown slightly without burning.

How to Store Leftover Air Fryer Lasagna

Lasagna is just as good the next day—maybe even better. To keep it tasting fresh, let it cool to room temperature before storing. Once cooled, transfer the lasagna to an airtight container and place it in the fridge within two hours of cooking to keep it safe. It’ll stay good for 3–4 days.

When you’re ready to reheat, you can use the microwave or pop it back in the air fryer. If you go with the air fryer, just cover the top with foil to keep the cheese from burning while it heats through evenly.

Our Top 3 Money-Saving Tips for This Recipe

Lasagna can be a bit of a splurge, but with these tips, you can make it more budget-friendly without sacrificing taste:

  1. DIY Ricotta: Try making your own ricotta at home with just milk, lemon juice, and salt—it’s cheaper, fresher, and fun.
  2. Batch Cooking: Make a larger batch and freeze portions for later to save on energy costs and ingredients.
  3. Use Leftover Veggies: Throw in any vegetables left in your fridge to add nutrition and bulk up your layers without extra cost.

What to Serve with Air Fryer Lasagna

Here are some great options that complement the rich flavors of lasagna without overshadowing it:

Garlic Bread

No lasagna meal feels complete without a side of warm, buttery garlic bread. It’s perfect for sopping up any leftover sauce and adds a lovely garlic punch. Plus, it’s super easy to make. Just slice a baguette, spread with garlic butter, sprinkle with parsley, and toast until golden.

Caprese Salad

For a lighter side, try a Caprese salad with slices of fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil leaves, all drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze. It’s refreshing and vibrant, offering a nice counterpoint to the warm, baked lasagna.

Antipasto Platter

An antipasto platter filled with various Italian meats, cheeses, olives, and pepperoncini can be a great starter or side. It introduces a variety of textures and flavors that complement the lasagna, and guests can pick and choose their favorites.
