Wrap the Sausages

Take a sausage and place it on the wide base of a triangle. Roll it towards the tip of the pastry, ensuring it’s tightly wrapped. The tip should neatly tuck under the sausage to prevent it from unrolling during cooking.

Ready the Air Fryer

Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking and arrange your wrapped sausages in a single layer. Make sure they’re not touching so the hot air can circulate freely and crisp up the pastry.

Cooking

Brush the tops of the pastry with melted butter. This will help them turn a delicious golden brown. Cook them in the air fryer at 200 degrees Celsius (about 392 degrees Fahrenheit) for 8 minutes or until they are puffed and golden.

Make the Sauce

While the pigs are air frying, mix together the mayonnaise, yellow mustard, and honey in a small bowl until well combined.

Recipe Notes and Expert Tips

To get the most out of your Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket, consider these handy tips:

  • Sausages: Any small sausage will do, but cocktail sausages or mini smokies are ideal. You can also use cut-up regular hot dogs or sausages if that’s what you have on hand.
  • Vegetarian: There are many great vegetarian sausages available that you can use as a substitute. Just ensure they’re pre-cooked or that they will cook through in the air fryer’s heat.
  • Puff Pastry: Crescent roll dough or even homemade pastry dough are great alternatives if you don’t have puff pastry. Each option provides a slightly different texture and flavor.
  • Cutting the Pastry: Use a pizza cutter for easier and more uniform cutting of the puff pastry.
  • Avoid Overcrowding: Cook in batches if necessary to ensure all sides of the pigs in a blanket crisp up nicely.
  • Seasonings: Sprinkle some bagel seasoning or your favorite spices onto the pastry before rolling for added flavor.
  • Watch Carefully: Cooking times may vary slightly based on the air fryer model, so keep an eye on your first batch to determine the best timing.

How to Store Leftover Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket

Storing these little treats is simple, and they reheat beautifully when you’re ready for round two. Just make sure the pigs in a blanket cool completely before packing them up. You can place the leftovers in an airtight container or wrap them tightly with plastic wrap—either way, they’ll stay fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days.

If you want to store them longer, freeze them on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag or container. They’ll keep in the freezer for up to 2 months. When it’s time to reheat, pop them in the air fryer at 350°F for about 3–5 minutes until they’re hot and crispy again. No need to thaw if frozen—just add a couple of extra minutes.

What to Serve with Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket

From dips to sides, here are some ideas to complement your air fryer sausage rolls:

Dips Galore

No pigs in a blanket are complete without some delicious dipping sauces. Beyond the homemade honey mustard, or the classic ketchup and mustard, why not try a cheese sauce, BBQ sauce, or curry sauce? Mix and match to find your favorite combinations.

Veggie Platters

Add some color and crunch to your meal with a fresh veggie platter. Carrot sticks, celery, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber slices are not only healthy but also provide a refreshing contrast to the rich, buttery pastry of the pigs in a blanket.

Starchy Sides

For a heartier meal, pair your pigs with some starchy sides like loaded tater tots, potato wedges, onion rings, or even a simple homemade potato salad. These sides can help round out the meal, especially if you’re serving them at a larger gathering.
